Large Amounts of Retail Space Absorbed in Broward County Following a Year of Healthy Leasing Activity
In the first quarter of 2019, strong leasing activity and a considerable amount of newly delivered retail space led to a positive 270,938 square feet absorbed in Broward County. The vacancy rate currently stands at 4.1 percent and has stood at the same rate since the second quarter of 2018 as retail market fundamentals remain healthy in Broward County. A total of 461,735 square feet of retail space was leased while an additional 279,177 square feet of new retail space was delivered in the first quarter of 2019. Grocers made up 25 percent of leasing activity in the first quarter of 2019 as Publix and Lucky’s Market continue to saturate Broward’s retail market.
